Youth Leadership

Educating Youth Leadership Walton Through Experience and Motivating Youth Leaders

The Walton County School District is proud to announce Youth Leadership Walton in conjunction with the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Workforce Development Board of Okaloosa and Walton Counties. The program will be in pilot schools beginning in January 2009. Many counties across the state of Florida and states across the nation are implementing quality Leadership Skills courses to promising high school students.

The purpose of the course is to provide an in-depth study of the leadership techniques of decision making, problem solving, meeting skills, communication, group conflict reduction, time and stress management, evaluation, team building, group dynamics, motivational strategy, and the role of leadership in a democratic society.

Youth Leadership Walton

The Youth Leadership/Education Council creates a program to educate through experience and motivate our young leaders and enable them to take an active role in their community. This will result in strong leaders who have hope for the future and the tools to influence a positive and progressive community.

"The Youth Leadership Program is a great opportunity for our youth to gain knowledge, skills and hands-on learning opportunities in leadership and soft skills for employment," said Walton County School District Supt. Carlene Anderson. "The partnership with the school district and chamber is valuable in preparing our youth for today's job market. We are looking forward to this venture."

This committee also works to fully understand workforce needs through on-going identification and assessment of business sector workforce demands. The group serves as an advocate for the development of economically based solutions and facilitates appropriate training and education that will ensure the availability of a thoroughly qualified workforce.
